Does God care about Me? by Gordon Keddie
Does God care about Me? by Gordon Keddie
The Scots pastor, Andrew A. Bonar, describes the topic of this psalm as "Messiah's people almost offended in Him." Even John the Baptiser had entertained a certain doubt about Jesus, perhaps because Jesus had not brought in God's Kingdom as he thought the Messiah should. John's feet arguably came close to stumbling, but the Lord kept him on solid ground with the encouragement equally applicable to all of us "Blessed is he who is not offended because of Me." (Luke 7:23). When the world is manifestly unfair, and if God Himself seems to be unfair to us, and we feel our feet stumbling and our steps slipping (73:2), we may well be tempted to think that the Lord is far away a deus absconditus. You can see how Asaph's psalm is for us all, for it is clearly designed to bring us back from the precipice of any doubt and practical unbelief with which we may be wrestling.
