The Three Marys by Alexander Moody Stuart
The Three Marys by Alexander Moody Stuart
Mary, the mother of Jesus; Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus; and Mary Magdalene all feature prominently in the gospel narrative. But what can Christians learn from the faith displayed by these women?
In these moving and engaging chapters, Alexander Moody Stuart draws out their characters and helps readers learn from each one's relationship to Jesus Christ. A favourite with former generations, The Three Marys provides biblical instruction and practical application as relevant to the twenty-first century as it proved to be when first written.
Alexander Moody Stuart was known for his outstanding warmth and wisdom as a pastor. Free St Luke's, his church in Edinburgh, was known, says John Macleod, as 'a rallying centre of the most exercised Christians of his generation.' It is not surprising that Spurgeon said of Moody Stuart: 'He has poetry in his soul and beyond that, a heart like that of Rutherford, fired with love to the Altogether Lovely One.'
Alexander Moody Stuart (1809—98) was the minister of St Luke's Church (Free St Luke's from 1843) in Edinburgh from 1837, and remained there until the late 1880s, when ill-health necessitated his retirement from preaching. The Banner of Truth Trust also publishes his Life of John Duncan, and Alexander Moody Stuart: A Memoir, by his son Kenneth Moody Stuart.
