Review: Faith Seeking Understanding

Faith Seeking Understanding Our Price: £1.50, Iain Campbell (Banner of Truth)

This exposition of Psalm 73 seeks to address the difficult problem God’s people often have to face – when our experience of life seems to clash with the character of God. Asaph, the writer of Psalm 73, knew what it was to grapple with this difficulty.

In Faith Seeking Understanding, the writer takes us through the Psalm and outlines clearly the problem that Asaph could not seem to resolve – that what he believed – “God is good to Israel, to such as are pure in heart” seemed to be denied by the prosperity of the wicked.

We see the place where Asaph eventually came so as to deal with his anxiety and come to faith and understanding. We see what he learned of the sovereignty of God, the silencing of God’s enemies and the security of God’s people. We realise that it is when we draw ‘near to God’ that we will again appreciate and know where our chief and lasting good is to be found.

Faith Seeking Understanding is a real help to struggling or discouraged Christians and a help to ministers looking to preach on this Psalm.
